Sestri Levante holds the beauty of one of the most extraordinary landscapes of Liguria del Levante, the famous Golfo del Tigullio, and offers a chance to explore marine villages of enchanting beauty and landscapes and sea of fabled beauty, all while staying at a hotel in Sestri Levante.
An isthmus, the Isola (island), two enchanting bays, the Baia del Silenzio and the Baia delle Favole: Sestri Levante is a little jewel of the Riviera del Tigullio, at 25 kilometers from Rapallo and 45 from Cinque Terre.
And it is here in Sestri Levante that the Hotel Miramare is found on one of the magic location of the Riviera del Levante: Miramare is one of the 4-star hotels of Sestri that enjoys the privilege of being in the pedestrian area and on the sea of the Baia del Silenzio. The hotel is right on the beach and within walking distance of the carrugi (narrow streets) of the Isola, the heart of Sestri and of the country, which bear witness, along with the historic patrician palazzos, medieval and baroque churches, liberty style villas with magnificent gardens, to the ancient and noble origins of Sestri Levante.
From piazza Sant'Antonio, along Colombo, to the characteristic carrugi (narrow streets) with their colorful houses, at piazza della Torre dei Doganieri, is a succession of picturesque glimpses and authentic sites. The Galleria Rizzi (next to Hotel Miramare) houses a precious collection of paintings of the Genovese school(from the 15th to the 18th century). The Convento dei Cappuccini is in an extraordinary panoramic location, and that of San Nicolò in Isola is truly attractive. There are beautiful slate portals and marvelous villas and historic palazzos such as the Palazzo Negretto Cambiaso and the Palazzo Comunale, and the Villa Gualino and the Villa Balbi.
Today elegant and sophisticated, with stores and boutiques for the most elegant shopping, Sestri Levante is a destination for refined travelers who wish to discover, in a stay in a hotel at Sestri Levante, not only the quiet of the Baia del Silenzio, but also the natural marvels of land and sea of the Golfo del Tigullio and of Cinque Terre, the little towns glitter like gems set between the sea and mountains of the Riviera del Levante such as Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, Camogli etc.
Always beloved for its pleasant year-round weather and for the lovely landscape, Sestri Levante was chosen by visitors on the Grand Tour as their habitual residence. Illustrious guests of Sestri, among others, included the writer Hans Christian Andersen, to whom Baia delle Favole owes its name, and whose work is honored in Sestri with the Andersen Prize (the Oscar of children’s books); the composer Richard Wagner, who, surprised by a storm on the sea, recreated its billows and buffeting in the notes of some passages of Tetralogia; the scientist Guglielmo Marconi, who carried out numerous experiments in Sestri and gave his name to the Torre Marconi.
